What causes glare?

Glare is concentrated light reflecting off a horizontal shiny surface, such as sand, water, snow or roads. It reduces visibility and makes it uncomfortable, painful and dangerous to carry on driving, cycling, skiing or just sunbathing.

Independent tests prove they work

Independent researchers investigated reaction times and stopping distances for drivers wearing ordinary sunglasses, polarized sunglasses and a control group wearing no sunglasses at all. A 12,000 watt lamp simulated the sun's glare. Drivers travelled at constant 50kms per hour towards the 'sun'. A hazard - a baby's pram - was pushed into the driver's path. Each driver applied the brake at the point they could see the hazard.
